X-ray Energy Response of Mercury Cadmium Telluride Near-infrared Detector Arrays

چکیده
A technique involving Fe X-rays provides a straightforward method to measure the response of a detector. The detector’s response can lead directly to a calculation of the conversion gain (e ADU), as well as aid detector design and performance studies. We calibrate the Fe X-ray energy response and pair production energy of HgCdTe using 8 HST WFC3 1.7 μm flight grade detectors. The results show that each Kα X-ray generates 2273 ± 137 electrons, which corresponds to a pair-production energy of 2.61 ± 0.16 eV. The uncertainties are dominated by our knowledge of the conversion gain. In future studies, we plan to eliminate this uncertainty by directly measuring conversion gain at very low light levels. High Speed Infrared Cameras Enable Demanding Thermal Imaging Applications
Recent developments in cooled mercury cadmium telluride (MCT or HgCdTe) infrared detector technology have made possible the development of high performance infrared cameras for use in a wide variety of demanding thermal imaging applications. These infrared cameras are now available with spectral sensitivity in the shortwave , mid-wave and long-wave spectral bands or alternatively in two bands. ...
متن کاملA cryogenic testbed for the characterisation of large detector arrays for astronomical and Earth-observing applications in the near to very-long-wavelength infrared
In this paper we describe a cryogenic testbed designed to offer complete characterisation—via a minimal number of experimental configurations— of mercury cadmium telluride (MCT) detector arrays for low-photon background applications, including exoplanet science and solar system exploration. Specifically, the testbed offers a platform to measure the dark current of detector arrays at various tem...
متن کاملSpectrometric Performances of CdTe and CdZnTe Spectrometric Semiconductor Detector Arrays at High X-Ray Flux
The development of a novel energy resolved fast Xray imaging detector is reported. The device is based on pixellated cadmium telluride (CdTe) and cadmium zinc telluride (CdZnTe) detectors coupled to a custom designed 16-channel fast spectroscopy front-end electronic circuit. For each channel, a fast Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) continuously digitizes the signal from the detector pixel. A F...
متن کاملEmerging Trends in IRFPA Sensors
Significant developments have been taking place in the field of infrared sensors in recent years, to achieve higher resolution, wider spectral range, shorter response time and higher sensitivity (lower noise) in thermal imaging systems. Efforts are on to develop new technologies to produce infrared focal plane arrays (IR FPAs) with smaller pixel pitches, larger formats, higher frame rates, larg...
متن کاملCdTe Photovoltaic Devices for Solar Cell Applications
Cadmium telluride (CdTe) has been recognized as a promising photovoltaic material for thin-film solar cells because of its near optimum bandgap of ~1.5 eV and high absorption coefficient. The energy gap is near optimum for a single junction solar cell and the high absorption coefficient allows films as thin as 2 μm to absorb more than 98% of the above-bandgap radiation. Cells with efficiencies ...
